As we saw in part one of this teaching, the very Word of God and the attitude of those in the early church makes it clear that icon veneration is not only an accretion, but it is also contrary to the commands of God. In this episode we will start by looking at what the officially recognized saints of the Eastern Orthodox Church have to say on this matter for many in their belief system have no problem using historical witnesses to make their own points, but when their beloved doctrines and beliefs are questioned, they claim that we can’t trust anything said by someone who wasn’t an officially recognized saint in their church.
