I know that this topic is questionable cuz agtv is strictly documentary teaching and I'm not here to change what agtv is by any means. I don't necessarily want biblical drama movies on agtv. I was wondering though if people on this forum can suggest biblical based drama movies in this thread? Now that I know there's a debate that Hollywood and Christian Hollywood gets things totally wrong and screws up the biblical understanding of the Bible. And like Hollywood loves to do is inject their own ideas in biblical Christianity. Plus there's a whole controversy of saying that the chosen TV series is not biblical but is there an independent film company that no one knows about? Maybe documentaries is the only way to teach people about biblical Christ and Bible. Like I said if this topic is not for agtv forums let me know and I'll delete this topic. Because I don't want to drowned out what agtv's mission statement is. Thanks again for all the work you've done with agtv and like I said if this is inappropriate for your forum let me know please? God bless
There's a series called "The Bible Collection" that has excellent dramatic movies that stay close to the biblical account. I've owned and watched them all on repeat since the 90s and never tire of them. The entire collection is available on VUDU with several being available for free steaming with ads. You can either rent or purchase them individually or as a bundled set. You may find some of them on Prime Video and Pureflix. For me, its proven to be a great investment to own them all--first as VHS tapes, then in DVD format, and now on streaming. That's how much I love them! If you are unsure which ones to start with, I highly recommend Abraham, Joseph, Jeremiah, David, and Moses. Here's the link to the collection on VUDU: https://bit.ly/3o8Iyvg
I also want to express my caution that even movies as excellently done as the Bible Collection should not be used as a means to "teach" the bible or as a replacement for true evangelism. I've only enjoyed these with other Christians on movie nights or just for wholesome entertainment focusing on the biblical characters I love. A believer can tell where some creative license is employed whereas those unfamiliar with the biblical text cannot. Movies do not carry the divine transformational power attached to them that God's Word contains. So, although these movies may become a gateway to inspire deeper conversation, they are ultimately not God's Word.
That clarified - the Bible collection is definitely a far superior and safer choice for spiritual edification than THE CHOSEN which does not stay authentic to the spirit of the biblical narratives and in my opinion tries to subtly indoctrinate with progressive "woke" themes.
Thank you so much for your information but on reflection and thought I just need agtv and an audio Bible which I have access to so that's all you need. I just went back in my past and I used to gobble up all the movies that have to do with the Bible but I realized that all I need is agtv and an audio Bible That's the best way to study the word for me. Thanks again for your comments it really helps.
You're so welcome! And you're right, we don't watch movies as a means to learn about the bible, we study the bible itself. I watch bible based dramatizations as a means to edify a faith and knowledge that is already present. They provide a faith-focused alternative to watching movies with themes that are filled with a secular worldview.
As long as you keep such movies in their proper context, they can actually be a great encouragement in your Christian walk. They are definitely not to function as study tools or a replacement for learning scripture. In fact, the more scripture you learn, the less fearful you will become about being deceived by imposters like THE CHOSEN or THE SHACK or NOAH. Biblical literacy strengthens discernment, which is the antidote to false ideology posing as Christian themes.
That clarified - I would equally caution you not to get unbalanced in this area and believe you must now become an ascetic when it comes to bible-based Christian entertainment. We believers have a tendency to over-swing in the opposite direction to counteract a known negative and find it difficult to stay in that healthy area of balance where spiritual reality tends to abide. I still enjoy biblical movies as an entertaining way to enjoy accounts related to our faith. But I immediately reject those that deviate in a deceptive manner away from spiritual truth. So, if you eventually change your mind and are looking for spiritually wholesome entertainment, THE BIBLE COLLECTION SERIES is indeed the best I've ever seen in this genre and most can be viewed on VUDU for free (with ads).
Nice connecting with you!
