In John Mark Comer's teaching there is no distinction between those who have truly been born again and religious people in general. The necessity of true saving faith is absent from the book. Readers are presented with states of consciousness rather than objective truth about Christ and the promises of God. Comer claims that he finds his consciousness “going home to God,” but “home” for the unconverted is alienation from God. Bob DeWaay calls this a grand setup for deception.
