In 1992 Richard Rohr and Andreas Ebert stated in their book, The Enneagram: A Christian Perspective that the Enneagram did not have any Christian origins. Since that publication a new storyline has been built with claims of the Enneagram being used by pre-Christian Pythagoras (c. 570 – c. 495 BC) Evagrius Ponticus (345–399 AD), Ramon Llull (c. 1232– c. 1315/16) and others. Bio:
Dr. Ronald V. Huggins received his doctorate (Th.D.) in Biblical Studies from the University of Toronto/Toronto School of Theology, with specializations in Second Temple Judaism, the Synoptic Gospels, Pauline Studies, and Patristics. He has previously taught a broad range of subjects including New Testament Greek, Church History, Modernism and Post Modernism at Moody Bible Institute Northwest, Salt Lake Theological Seminary, and Midwestern Baptist Theological Seminary, where he also served as the managing editor of the Midwestern Journal of Theology. His academic writings have appeared in the Journal of Biblical Literature, Novum Testamentum, Revue de Qumran, Ephemerides Theologicae Lovanienses, Westminster Theological Journal, Midwestern Journal of Theology, the Journal of the Evangelical Theological Society, and the Eerdmans Dictionary of the Bible. He served as Chair of the Sayings of Jesus Consultation of the Evangelical Theological Society. His academic writings in the field of comparative religion have appeared in The Evangelical Dictionary of World Religions, Dialogue: A Journal of Mormon Thought, and The Journal of Hindu-Christian Studies. His writings on the history of psychology have appeared in Phanês: Journal of Jung History along with a forthcoming article dealing with the history of the Enneagram in the Journal Bibliotheca Sacra. He is also the author of a biography of Jerald and Sandra Tanner, which is scheduled to be published this summer.
