This section of Colossians reminds us of what God has done for us. The term used for forgiveness in this section literally means “graced.” The forgiveness of sins is legal, not emotional. We need to know that our debt of sin is paid, whatever we feel like. Being made alive implies a supernatural work of God, not gradual improvement through human wisdom. Jesus showed the priority of the forgiveness of sins in His teaching and ministry.
