While pastors often receive formal theological training, lay elders are usually treated differently, even though they share the same role according to Scripture. Proper training is essential for elders to shepherd the church, teach sound doctrine, and protect against false teaching. Raising up elders isn’t something mystical—it requires intentional discipleship and careful evaluation of qualified men. A 12-month training program exists to help churches prepare elders by focusing on biblical qualifications, leadership responsibilities, and theology. The heart behind this effort is the belief that a church cannot grow beyond the spiritual maturity of its leaders.
