We begin this session by discussing the false idea of “the evolution of human consciousness” as mentioned by an Enneagram author. In the Enneagram system, the nine personality types are the hook that pulls people into the system. The panentheist religion is lurking but many do not understand what it is and how anti-Christian it is. We discuss the ecumenism of Enneagram proponents and how they claim various mystical, religions over the centuries as their sources. Such mystics have typically promoted practices such as solitude and silence. These are prescribed because at the heart of this theology is the rejection of the biblical doctrine of the fall and the resulting sin nature in all humans. Thinking there is a pristine “True Self” to be found, solitude, silence and stillness makes sense to them. The problem is that there is a sin nature and it does not go away through mysticism. In contrast, the Bible prescribes fellowship around the word of God, prayer, the Lord’s Supper, and corporate worship. These are both active and corporate. Enneagram is grounded in ecumenical mysticism and is very convoluted. We call it an “ad hoc, mystical folk religion.”
