We start by discussing the question of why something a clearly pagan as Enneagram is brought into evangelical institutions. the answer is that there is a lack of clear Biblical teaching in churches that leaves so many without discernment. The Enneagram idea is that there is a “divine essence” which was corrupted by life events and needs to be recovered through their processes. We cite Richard Rohr to show how he claims that the Enneagram process is analogous to a conversion. The problem is that for evangelicals who are seduced by it, this is a conversion from the truth to Eastern religion. The Bible tells us that the “True Self” is in fact the “old self” that is dead in Adam. Both Ephesians and Colossians speak of the old self being put aside and becoming alive as the “new self” in Christ. We discuss a similar idea found in Enneagram which is the “authentic self.” This is a category from psychological theory mixed with unbiblical religion. They claim that people need to use Enneagram to find the “pristine, authentic self” which is to be recovered.
