John Mark Comer claims that the most important goal of apprenticeship is being with Jesus - being aware of His presence and hearing His voice. Bob DeWaay calls this spirituality divorced from rationality. He shows that being aware of presence is not a biblical category and contrasts it with the biblical promises from Romans 8. He also addresses Comer's claim that we can "live in the moment-by-moment flow of love within the Trinity." We cite 1John 4:1-3 to show that we are to use objective truth and our rational minds to test the spirits, not an inner consciousness of something spiritual.
