John Mark Comer claims there is an inward journey of self-discovery that is key to Christian spirituality. Comer glowingly cites M. Robert Mulholland Jr.'s book "Invitation to a Journey" to support his position. Mulholland further describes this inward journey, claiming that we will encounter God and find our “true self.” Bob and Barb examine the inward journey prescribed by Mulholland and supported by Comer to show that it is contrary to the biblical doctrine of the means of grace and the sufficiency of the finished work of Christ. We don't look inward - we look to Christ.
